Supergirl moving to the CW for a season 2
After months of speculation, it has finally been confirmed. Supergirl has been renewed for a season 2, and is moving networks from CBS to The CW, the home of many popular DC comics shows such as Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and iZombie.
The Girl-of-Steel made her debut last year on CBS, followed with a very high viewer base in the beginning but ultimately loosing almost half of them towards the end of the season. Les Moonve who is the head of CBS, previously stated that the network planned to renew all of its freshman series, including Supergirl, but the licensing fees and a three million dollar bill for each episode, might have intervened with that decision.
Supergirl filmed its first season in Los Angeles, which might have added to costs, but rumors suggest that production might move over to Vancouver which is where Arrow and The Flash are filmed, and could lead to lower production cost as well.
Theres also the matter of wether or not the cast is willing to move over to film in Canada. The show stars Melissa Benoist as Supergirl alongside Calista Flockhart, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan and David Harewood. And is produced by Ali Adler, Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti, and Sarah Schechter.
